Step 3: Create an account ID on the Hedera Mainnet using the public key from your Ledger device
Retrieve the public key from your Ledger device via MyHbarWallet.com (Ledger Live must be closed to retrieve)
To start using the Ledger device with HBAR, you'll need to create an account ID on the Hedera mainnet using the public key found in your Ledger device.
To retrieve the public key from your Ledger device, you'll need to navigate to MyHBARWallet.com, click or tap on "Access My Account", and then click or tap on "Hardware" — follow the instructions on your screen to display your public key, as seen in the screenshot below. Please close Ledger Live before proceeding, if you have not already.
Next, you will need to create a Hedera account ID which can be done by following one of the multiple options covered in steps 3a, 3b, or 3c.
3a: Create an account via Atomic Wallet to then use on MyHBARWallet.com to create an account for use with the Ledger Nano
- Create an account using the Atomic Wallet (desktop / mobile) by following these instructions: https://help.hedera.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010008718
- Next, retrieve your private key / seed phrase and account ID from the Atomic Wallet using these instructions: https://help.hedera.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012385098
- Open https://www.myhbarwallet.com/ using your web browser and access your account using the private key OR seed phrase you just retrieved, by following these instructions: https://help.hedera.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009863557
- After gaining control of your account on MyHbarWallet.com, click "Create Account" on the left-hand menu bar (if this is not visible, then click the green "Menu" button under your account balance and then click the greyed-out "Create Account" on the left-hand menu bar).
- Enter "2" into the "Initial Balance" field and enter the public key retrieved from your Ledger device into the "Public Key" field. Then click "Create Account" — this will generate an account ID which you need to securely document. The Ledger Nano device itself holds the private key for the Hedera account ID you just generated.
- Log out of MyHbarWallet.com, go back to the MyHbarWallet.com homepage, and proceed to "Step 4" of this tutorial.

You can purchase HBAR in Wallawallet by pressing the ‘Buy’ button in the nav bar or you can send some from an exchange or have a friend send you a small amount. You won’t need more than 1 HBAR to create an account, they only cost $0.01 worth of HBAR

-
Plug in your Ledger Nano device and get it ready to take commands
- Select ‘Hardware’ in MyHBARWallet
- Select the Ledger and continue. Check your Ledger Nano and allow the public key to be displayed

- Point your camera at the Ledger Nano public key QR code that should still be up on your computer screen. The QR will scan and you will be able to create a Hedera account for that public key
-
The new Hedera account ID for your Ledger Nano has been created and is displayed here. Safely document this account ID along with your other Ledger Nano documentation such as the recovery phrases and keys. You will not be able to control the funds if you do not know the account ID
